It’s said that life is what happens to you when you are busy in doing other things. it is more true when it comes to experiencing trauma . Trauma is the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope with that experience.
Typical causes and dangers of trauma include all types of harassment given, abuses experienced , violence done, life-threatening medical conditions, catastrophic natural disasters such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. If person’s idea of world or assessment about his own future gets shattered then also person can go through traumatic experience
We can’t stop the entire trauma from happening, we are destined to go through traumatic conditions in our life time several times, BUT we can definitely manage them better. For the we need to know understanding process of acceptances of losses due to trauma it’s a 5 stage process and is as follows
1. Denial: The first reaction to trauma is to deny the reality of the situation. It is a defense mechanism that buffers the immediate shock. We block out the words and hide from the facts.
2. Anger and grief: As the masking effects of denial and isolation begin to wear, intense emotions are expressed as anger. The anger may be aimed at inanimate objects, complete strangers, friends or family. Rationally, we know that other person or thing is not to be blamed. Emotionally, however, we may resent the person or thing for causing us pain.
3. Bargaining: once the anger subsides, the normal reaction to the feelings of helplessness and vulnerability is often a need to regain control that we lost. In this we may make or try to make a deal with God or our higher power in an attempt to postpone the inevitable
4. Depression: once we no certain loss is inevitable and we will not regain total control then this condition arouses, this happens due to guilt that we start feeling by realizing that somewhere our act are responsible for what has happened and also due to the thought that we need to separate from our person or things that are near and dear to us
And then acceptance stage comes. Reaching this stage of acceptance is a gift not afforded to everyone. This phase is marked by withdrawal and calm. This is not a period of happiness and must be distinguished from depression.
No doubt understanding process of acceptances of losses due to trauma helps us to manage traumatic conditions better. But we need to understand Coping with trauma is a ultimately a deeply personal and singular experience. Nobody can help you go through it more easily or understand all the emotions that you’re going through. But others can be there for you and help comfort you through this process. The best thing you can do is to allow yourself to feel the grief as it comes over you. Resisting it only will prolong the natural process of healing. May you never feel any trauma but if situation demands may the courage be with you folks.
